Directions

The Seminar is in the CERC (Community Education and Recreation Center) which is located at 180 9th Street Jersey City, New Jersey USA. This places it directly across the Hudson River from downtown Manhattan, New York City.

AIRPORT: The nearest and recommended airport is Liberty Field Newark (EWR). It is 8 miles from the CERC to the airport. Taxi or train or bus connections are all possible. The other two NY airports are two river crossing away. In rush hour to cross a river is 30 to 60 minutes. This does not count the extra distance. Taxi from Newark airport to downtown Jersey City is around $40 with tip. From JFK it is over $100.

PATH: The CERC is only a short distance from the Holland Tunnel into New York City. It also close to the PATH trains to downtown and midtown Manhattan and to Hoboken and Newark New Jersey. The PATH station is Pavonia/Newport.

LITE RAIL: Even closer to the CERC is the Hudson/Bergen Lite Rail system that runs along the west bank of the Hudson River from Bayonne to West New York New Jersey. The Newport Station on the Lite Rail is very close to the CERC. It is a short walk through the Newport Mall and the CERC is on the other side of the mall parking garage.

Hotels

This list of hotels are divided into two sections. The first section will list nearby hotels for those who do not a have a car. That are with in walking distance or short simple train rides. These hotels often charge for parking. And, it is normally possible to have them drop you off and/or pick you up using the hotel shuttle bus.

The second section will be on hotels that are a short drive away. They normally have parking and are cheaper.

The telephone number is the hotel’s local number. All of these are chains that have a toll free number. Also, the prices are estimates only. Sometimes they are cheaper with a special price. They all have higher rates for business people. Even for the same hotel you can get different prices for the same room. Try Hotels.com or Expedia.com ot any number of other web consolidators as well as through the toll free number and the hotel itself. Because of the cut back in business travel, they should be very flexible in price.

Hotels within walking distance

The Holland Motor Inn is closest but not recommended.

Note: Many of these hotels are “SUITES” hotels. This means that the hotel rooms are bigger than average, with a Bedroom, Bathroom and Living Room with small kitchen. The Bedroom will come in either a large King Size bed or two Queen size beds. The living room will either have a sofa that can be converted into a Queen size bed and/or pull away beds that they can set up in the living room. All of the downtown Jersey City hotels are but a short walk from a supermarket. Thus, even if these hotels are somewhat expensive you can easy share 4 people in a suite. So a $160 per night room becomes a $40 per night on an individual basis. Even lower, if your party is very friendly.

Hotels not within walking distance

Econo Lodge, 750-760 Tonnele Ave, Jersey City
201-420-4090 Average rate $80

Red Carpet Inn 459 Tonnele Ave, Jersey City

201-863-6363 – Average rate $60

Note: These 3 hotels are all on Tonnele Ave, which is a bypass Truck route also known as US1 & US9, on most signs US 1/9.

They are all located in the section that is between the Tonnele Circle (where the connection to the Holland Tunnel is located) and NJ3 (which is where the connection to the Lincoln Tunnel and New Jersey Turnpike exit 16E are located).

This route is a divided roadway with several traffic lights. All U-turns and left turns are from the right lane. The exceptions are at either end. The Tonnele Circle is a traffic circle. Going north, the connection to NJ3 is the left lane.

Other locations which are not very far away and that have lots of hotels are Secaucus NJ which is on NJ3 just past the NJ Turnpike Exit 16E and the Meadowlands area just after crossing the Hackensack River. Giant Stadium etc are all located in that area.
